Career Skills for New Jobs Pilot
EML is proud to be involved in the Australian Government’s Try, Test, Learn innovation fund to trial an approach to helping older job seekers find and sustain employment and reduce their risk of long term dependence on welfare.
We are excited to be partnering with PWC, ReadyTech, Esher House and TafeNSW to help improve the employment prospects of up to 250 job seekers in Western Sydney.

EML’s dedicated team of career management practitioners will work with job seekers to provide tailored and individual support.
The pilot - ‘Career Skills for New Jobs’ - aims to help older job seekers to re-enter and stay in the workforce, by:
- matching them to an experienced career practitioner, who will deliver tailored career management support
- providing access to career diagnostics and behavioural assessments, to help individuals identify skills, interests, behaviours, and barriers to employment
- connecting them to further education and training, to support their skills development
- linking them to existing services and whole-of-person resources, to support them on their path off welfare and into work
Simon Davidson, EML’s General Manager, said:
“EML’s culture has a steeped history in getting people’s lives back is a great fit for this pilot to help people get back on track to productive employment. Our involvement in the pilot means that those who have had a hard time getting back into the workforce and back onto a career path now have the opportunity to access tailored and individualised support to secure employment.”

The Career Skills for New Jobs pilot project is open to 250 older job seekers (aged 50 years or over) who are currently in receipt of Newstart Allowance and living in south western Sydney. Participant recruitment will occur in the coming months. Willing and eligible participants will then start an intensive 12 weeks of career management support with the support of a career practitioner.
The project is open to the first 250 willing and eligible job seekers. Participation is completely voluntary. The project will deliver tailored support to participants based on their individual needs. Participants in the pilot will still need to demonstrate that they are meeting their existing mutual obligation requirements.
