In February this year, EML sponsored Blokepedia's Conversations that Matter in Sydney. The event, hosted by Josh Quarmby, Founder & Managing Director of Blokepedia, featured Heath Grundy, Steve Pennells and Allan Sparkes CV,OAM who discussed their experiences of change, fatherhood, work, injury and mental ill health.
Mental health is a key issue in our community and for the people EML is helping to return from workplace injury and illness.
Encouraged by the success of the event, EML is now sponsoring Blokepedia’s new web-series that sets out to create positive change for men’s health and wellbeing by exploring some of the issues and life events affecting men across Australia.
Hosted by entertainer Jimmy Rees, the ten part series will feature guest appearances from experts and extraordinary everyday men discussing a range of topics including fatherhood, communication in relationships and social connection.
The title of the show, Jimmy’s Shed not only shares its name with its host, but also has an extra special meaning that captures what the series is about for Blokepedia Managing Director, Josh Quarmby.
My grandfather, Jimmy, had a huge shed at their family home in Junee. It was that space in which my Pa would do his thinking and tinkering. When the family was together, Pa’s shed was where we’d all congregate. It was a very special space for me growing up. It was a place of connection, learning and storytelling,” he said.
With EML’s support, Jimmy’s Shed aims to address key men’s health issues and provide viewers with tools and resources to enhance their individual health and wellbeing.
“Research has shown that one in five Australians will experience mental illness at some point in their lives, whether related to their job or not. As an organisation, EML is dedicated to the prevention of work-related psychological injury or mental illness. We provide a range of resources for workers, their families and employers. Supporting the wonderful work Blokepedia is doing with businesses and the community to create better awareness and improve the lives of Australian men is another positive step in this direction,” EML Group Executive – New Markets David Fryar said.
The web-series launches on Thursday 4 June and can be viewed via www.blokepedia.com
