EML will turn off the power on Saturday (March 30) to shed light on the importance of Earth Hour.
For the eighth consecutive year EML will power down from 8.30pm in support of the global push to reduce our impact on the earth.
“When we first became involved we had a team of around 200 people. Now we have a team of more than 2,000,” EML Head of Building Services Roger Stamford said.
By implementing energy and water saving measures the Nabers’ report* estimates that in 2017 alone that this prevented 650 tonnes of carbon dioxide, or took the equivalent of 155 cars from our roads.
“We are very committed to reducing our environmental footprint.”
EML, a personal injury claims management mutual, has a dozen offices across the country and a minimum standard for each tenancy.
This includes:
- 5+ star energy rating
- 3.5+ star water rating
- Proximity to public transport
- Good quality end-of-trip facilities
- LED lighting fixtures throughout the tenancy
This carries over into further fit-out, appliance provision and operational activity with all tenancy lighting shutting down between 6pm and 7pm week days, unless sensor activated.
Staff are also being asked to contribute to reductions.
“We ask our teams to run their PC at 50 per cent brightness, to use ceramic cups provided, recycle and limit the amount of paper they use, especially printing,” Mr Stamford said.
Every little bit helps to reduce waste and we are looking at further recycling options.
“We only have one planet.”
