Jimmy’s Shed, hosted by entertainer and social media phenomenon Jimmy Rees, is an entertaining 10-part web series addressing a range of critical mental health issues experienced by men in Australia.
Sponsored by EML and produced by Blokepedia, the series aims to create positive change by shining a light on challenges affecting men and their families.
“Our business is about helping people return to work after injury or illness,” says EML Chief Executive Mark Coyne. “The work we do makes us very conscious of the critical role mental health plays in recovering from trauma and, with around one in five Australians experiencing mental illness as some point in their lives, it remains a key issue across our country today.”
Jimmy’s Shed features guest appearances from experts, authors, sports personalities, and extraordinary everyday men discussing a range of topics including fatherhood, communication in relationships and social connection.
“We’re committed to finding innovative ways of addressing men’s health,” says Josh Quarmby, Founder & Managing Director of Blokepedia. “It can be hard to connect on these issues, which is why it was so important to find a format that was accessible as well as informative.”
The series was recorded in the trailer out the front of Jimmy’s house during the height of the 2020 pandemic and each 30-minute episode showcases personal stories from a range of guests. Importantly, they include examples of strategies on maintaining positive mental health in the face of life’s challenges. Since the series was released last year, the program has received positive feedback from the community and mental health advocates alike.
“We’re proud to be at the forefront of promoting the importance of mental wellbeing at work,” said Mark Coyne. “It is incredibly important to us that we find even better ways to support the welfare of workers and prevent workplace injuries - whether they are physical or psychological. That is why we reinvest a percentage of our profits into socially responsible projects like Jimmy’s Shed.”
