This July, EML celebrates two years in Victoria as an agent for WorkSafe Victoria.
Since starting operations in 2016, the business has grown to employ 240 specialists in injury management in offices in Melbourne’s CBD and Geelong, providing services to over 24,000 employers.
“I’m really proud of what the team has delivered,” says Declan Collins, EML’s General Manager in Victoria. “Our people are motivated by our vision of people getting their lives back, and over the past two years we’ve helped over 3,400 people return to work.
“One of the things that makes EML different is our investment in initiatives to help our customers create safer workplaces, and feedback shows they really value this.”
Michael Stoddart, Head of Injury Management, Australia at Lendlease comments: “EML aren’t just claims managers for us. What EML do really well is that they invest. They invest a lot more in prevention, mental health and employee wellbeing. We’ve really benefited from that over the last couple of years, and we’ll continue to do that for many years to come.”
“We’ve invested heavily in our mobile case management service,” says Declan. “Our mobiles have clocked up 500,000 kilometres travelling across Victoria doing more than 2,350 site visits, meeting with employers and workers to help them return to work.
“It was also great to launch the Recovery After Trauma guides with our client, Barwon Child Youth and Family, in Geelong recently. We funded Phoenix Australia to develop the guides to provide practical, accessible information to help health and emergency service workers identify and manage symptoms of PTSD early.
“We also developed an industry first – an interactive, personalised video to help workers understand the claims process. We know it can be confusing for people, and by answering common questions about pay and treatment options early on we can more quickly focus on their return to work.”
“Another strength is our mental injury management expertise,” says Declan. “We work with customers to help them identify key risks in their workplace and how to address these.
“We took a calculated risk with the (Mis)behave with Dave videos by using humour to raise awareness about the risk of mental injury in the workplace. We wanted to help employers and workers be aware of mental health issues early on so they can prevent problems down the track. We’ve had such great feedback and the videos have been viewed over 11,000 times.”
